What do we mean by real recycling?

At Thermapak, we like keeping it real and take pride in our commitment to the planet, offering cutting-edge cooling solutions that not only keep your items fresh but also minimize environmental impact. We are constantly researching the best methods to do so and use a scientific and evidence based approach.

What sets us apart is our 100% recyclable protected design, seamlessly integrating into the circular economy.  Our Thermachill boxes are a combination of  cardboard and low-density polyethylene and are easily disposed of through kerbside domestic recycling. Alternative biodegradable, compostable and reusable options, whilst an improvement upon polystyrene, can still end up in limited recycling streams or require specialised facilities ultimately leading to unintended landfill

Thermapak's 100% recyclable materials and IPO registered design offers a 'real recycling' solution that aligns with the principles of a truly sustainable future .

Let's face it these are better than non - recyclable options, but while using biodegradable and compostable packaging may seem eco-friendly, the reality is often less green than it appears.

While these materials do break down over time and may be reused, they do not get recycled in the 'Real Recycling' sense. Without designated recycling streams or specialised facilities, they can still end up in household waste, destined for landfills.

Despite efforts to encourage reuse, returning by mail or composting, there is a margin of error where many end users will lack the time and resources to do so ultimately leading to unintended disposal in general waste and landfill.

Does everyone have time to return by mail? or have a garden? What do people do with soiled packaging?  When applied at scale this is not ideal for zero waste goals.

In contrast, truly 100% recyclable materials like our Thermapak recycled plastic and cardboard packs can be easily and conveniently recycled via the end users standard household recycling bin using existing infrastructure, supporting the closed-loop system. This enables easy disposal, collection, processing, and transformation into new products with efficiency.

Why sustainable plastic?
Closing the loop

Before creating Thermapak we spent a lot of time researching the best recyclable materials available for packaging.  We looked for the most advanced and technically efficient method of recycling that would make a real difference to the planet.

In terms of 'Real Recycling' our aim is not simply just reusing or repurposing but making use of the circular economy - reducing waste and increasing efficiency in a closed loop. We are committed to continued research and are confident our boxes offer the best method available.

Thermapak's plastic sheeting is made from 30-50% recyclable materials and combined with the cardboard outer, make the ideal pairing to keep items safe, hygenic and cool with 100%  recyclability for the end user via standard domestic recycling bins.

Plastic may not be the poster child for the environment but in terms of recyclability  and technical advantage plastic emerges as the unsung hero, excelling in durability, versatility, and efficiency. Furthermore  alternative compostable / biodegradable / repurposed insulations often come wrapped in the same recyclable plastics we use here at Thermapak. Why introduce another less efficient material?

Our sustainable low density polyethelene liners have the ability to withstand harsh conditions, resisting impact, moisture and limiting wasteage - a lightweight solution  indispensable in circular economy and zero-waste targets.
